Use Your Pendrive As Ram ( Vista )

You must have heard of this option in Windows Vista. It's that the USB flash drive can be used to increase the capacity of RAM. It will help to boost the performance of the system. You can not only use your Pen drive but also any types of memory cards or memory sticks that you got with your mobile phones, digital cameras or any other devices. This option of making the external memory device works as RAM is called ‘ReadyBoost’. Caution: - The device can only be used with ReadyBoost if it qualifies the data transfer speed test; means if the data transfer speed of the device is lower than that is recommended by Readyboost, then it cannot be used as RAM. It is written in the product description of some of the Pen Drives that whether the particular pen drive is compatible with Readyboost or not. So you can check it before buying one. Benefits of ReadyBoost :- - If your system has low RAM, resulting a slowdown in the performance, Readyboost will work for you. - RAM is much more co...

Change Text On XP Start Button

Step 1 - Modify Explorer.exe File In order to make the changes, the file explorer.exe located at C:\Windows needs to be edited. Since explorer.exe is a binary file it requires a special editor. For purposes of this article I have used Resource Hacker. Resource HackerTM is a freeware utility to view, modify, rename, add, delete and extract resources in 32bit Windows executables and resource files (*.res). It incorporates an internal resource script compiler and decompiler and works on Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems. get this from h**p://delphi.icm.edu.pl/ftp/tools/ResHack.zip The first step is to make a backup copy of the file explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer. Place it in a folder somewhere on your hard drive where it will be safe. Start Resource Hacker and open explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer.exe. The category we are going to be using is "String Table". Expand it by clicking the plus sign then navig...

RATS

What? Rats? Those pesky black things that always cause damage in the house. Very cute to look still very destructive all the same. This is supposed to be a site on Internet Security not household and pest management. So why all this here? Put your thoughts aside for a while and let me continue. I am not talking about the above rats. This is in continuation on what the uninitiated call as Trojans which I had hinted upon in my earlier article and what the refined call as Remote Administrative Tools or RATS. Trojans can be very destructive if you're not careful. So tighten your seat belts as we gear up for take-off. To define Trojans, we refresh our knowledge of a virus. A virus is a self-replicating piece of code designed to cause damage or irritation. Trojans assume much greater risk proportions. As the name RATS suggest, they allow a remote user to operate your PC sitting thousands of miles away via the Internet. Surprised? No need to be. The Internet today imparts such power that...

Bluetooth

Well to begin with, Bluetooth is a new technology named after the 10th century Danish king Harald Bluetooth Blatand who ruled part of Scandinavia in 960 AD .He helped unite his part of the world. As the name implies that Bluetooth would be the technology to unite the mobile world. Bluetooth device is the revolutionary device launched by L.M Ericsson, to integrate its phone with all Internet enabled devices. Two L.M Ericsson telephone employees, the Swedish born Sve Mattison and his Dutch colleague, Jaap Haartsen, originally designed Bluetooth technology in 1994. The term Bluetooth refers to an open specification governed by the Bluetooth special interest group (SIG) for wireless personal area networks (PANs). This technology provides a way to connect and exchange information between devices like personal digital assistants (PDAs), mobile phones, laptops, PCs, printers and digital cameras via a secure, low cost, globally available short-range radio frequency. Lets look at some examples ...

Computer Network – Basics

An internet work is a collection of individual networks, connected by intermediate networking devices, that functions as a single large network. The networking devices are the vital tools for communication. Whenever you have a set of computers or networking devices to be connected, you make the connections, depending on the physical layout and your requirements Depending on the physical layout or topology of the network, there are three types of networks. LAN LAN stands for Local Area Network. These networks evolved around the PC revolution. LANs enabled multiple users in a relatively small geographical area to exchange files and messages, as well as access shared resources such as file servers. WAN WAN stands for Wide Area Network. The interconnection of various LAN’s through telephone network, which unites geographically distributed users is achieved through WAN. In short when we log on to the internet, we become a part of a WAN. MAN MAN stands for Metropolitan Area Network. It is u...

Backtracking EMAIL Messages

Tracking email back to its source: Twisted Evil cause i hate spammers... Evil or Very Mad Ask most people how they determine who sent them an email message and the response is almost universally, "By the From line." Unfortunately this symptomatic of the current confusion among internet users as to where particular messages come from and who is spreading spam and viruses. The "From" header is little more than a courtesy to the person receiving the message. People spreading spam and viruses are rarely courteous. In short, if there is any question about where a particular email message came from the safe bet is to assume the "From" header is forged. So how do you determine where a message actually came from? You have to understand how email messages are put together in order to backtrack an email message. SMTP is a text based protocol for transferring messages across the internet. A series of headers are placed in front of the data portion of the message. By ...

Know Spyware

There are a lot of PC users that know little about "Spyware", "Mal-ware", "hijackers", "Dialers" & many more. This will help you avoid pop-ups, spammers and all those baddies. What is spy-ware? Spy-ware is Internet jargon for Advertising Supported software (Ad-ware). It is a way for shareware authors to make money from a product, other than by selling it to the users. There are several large media companies that offer them to place banner ads in their products in exchange for a portion of the revenue from banner sales. This way, you don't have to pay for the software and the developers are still getting paid. If you find the banners annoying, there is usually an option to remove them, by paying the regular licensing fee. Known spywares There are thousands out there, new ones are added to the list everyday. But here are a few: Alexa, Aureate/Radiate, BargainBuddy, ClickTillUWin, Conducent Timesink, Cydoor, Comet Cursor, eZula/KaZaa Toptext...

All About FTP

Setting Up A Ftp: Well, since many of us have always wondered this, here it is. Long and drawn out. Also, before attempting this, realize one thing; You will have to give up your time, effort, bandwidth, and security to have a quality ftp server. That being said, here it goes. First of all, find out if your IP (Internet Protocol) is static (not changing) or dynamic (changes everytime you log on). To do this, first consider the fact if you have a dial up modem. If you do, chances are about 999 999 out of 1 000 000 that your IP is dynamic. To make it static, just go to a place like h*tp://www.myftp.org/ to register for a static ip address. You'll then need to get your IP. This can be done by doing this: Going to Start -> Run -> winipcfg or www.ask.com and asking 'What is my IP?' After doing so, you'll need to download an FTP server client. Personally, I'd recommend G6 FTP Server, Serv-U FTPor Bullitproof v2.15 all three of which are extremely reliable, and the n...

Advanced Shellcoding Techniques

Introduction This paper assumes a working knowledge of basic shellcoding techniques, and x86 assembly, I will not rehash these in this paper. I hope to teach you some of the lesser known shellcoding techniques that I have picked up, which will allow you to write smaller and better shellcodes. I do not claim to have invented any of these techniques, except for the one that uses the div instruction. The multiplicity of mul This technique was originally developed by Sorbo of darkircop.net. The mul instruction may, on the surface, seem mundane, and it's purpose obvious. However, when faced with the difficult challenge of shrinking your shellcode, it proves to be quite useful. First some background information on the mul instruction itself. mul performs an unsigned multiply of two integers. It takes only one operand, the other is implicitly specified by the %eax register. So, a common mul instruction might look something like this: movl $0x0a,%eax mul $0x0a This would multiply t...

Accessing The Entire Internet On Your 3 Phone, U8110, E616 etc

If you have a phone thats with the provider 3 theres a simple trick to allow you to access the entire internet on its browser without having to go through 3 services and only what they want to allow you access to view. Simply do the following. Menu - 9 (for settings) - 5 (for access points) - Edit the 3 Services Change the APN (down the bottom) from 3services to 3netaccess Restart the phone And you can now access the entire internet through your phones browser. Remember you'll have to change it back if you want to access 3 services. Changing it in the browser doesn't seem to work. I have tried this on my U8110 and it worked perfectly Things to note: * Remember that you are charged for all downloads (.4c per kb on most plans) so if your cautious about your phone bill id advise staying away from sites with loads of pictures. * Also, some people have had trouble where they have accessed a site with too much information on it and the phone has either froze or reset. The phone...

A Web Standards Checklist, How to make a proper website

A web standards checklist The term web standards can mean different things to different people. For some, it is 'table-free sites', for others it is 'using valid code'. However, web standards are much broader than that. A site built to web standards should adhere to standards (HTML, XHTML, XML, CSS, XSLT, DOM, MathML, SVG etc) and pursue best practices (valid code, accessible code, semantically correct code, user-friendly URLs etc). In other words, a site built to web standards should ideally be lean, clean, CSS-based, accessible, usable and search engine friendly. About the checklist This is not an uber-checklist. There are probably many items that could be added. More importantly, it should not be seen as a list of items that must be addressed on every site that you develop. It is simply a guide that can be used: * to show the breadth of web standards * as a handy tool for developers during the production phase of websites * as an aid for developers who are interested...
